Week 4 of the NFL season was quite a ride.
While the Kansas City Chiefs held on to their perfect record, other teams we thought unbeatable fell to less than expected opponents as the Bills took down the Falcons in Atlanta, and the Patriots dropped another game at home, this time to the Panthers.
Besides the bad winless teams (and there are two good winless teams!) at the bottom and the Chiefs at the top, the football world of 2017 is still taking shape, with powers shifting every week.
Below we do our best to show where each team stands after a quarter of the season.
32. Cleveland Browns
Record: 0-4
Last week: Lost to the Bengals 31-7
This week: vs. New York Jets
One thing to know: After losing to the Bengals last week, this week's home game against the New York Jets might be the Browns' best remaining chance to win a game this season. With first overall pick Myles Garrett hinting at a debut, Cleveland might be able to finally claim a victory for the home fans.
31. San Francisco 49ers
Record: 0-4
Last week: Lost to the Cardinals, 18-15
This week: at Indianapolis Colts
One thing to know: The 49ers are sticking with Brian Hoyer, and coach Kyle Shanahan knows the team needs to play better in other areas as well, but after two close losses and empty stadiums in San Francisco, the 49ers are facing down another long season.
30. Miami Dolphins
Record: 1-2
Last week: Lost to the Saints 20-0
This week: vs. Tennessee Titans
One thing to know: With Jay Cutler flaunting his apathy for football as the Dolphins ran a play from the wildcat on Sunday, it's not difficult to imagine Miami turning to backup quarterback Matt Moore if this week's game starts to go south.
29. Indianapolis Colts
Record: 1-3
Last week: Lost to the Seahawks, 46-18
This week: vs. San Francisco 49ers
One thing to know: Andrew Luck is finally returning to practice this week, and though he's out for Week 5, could possibly return in Week 6 or 7.
28. New York Giants
Record: 0-4
Last week: Lost to the Buccaneers 25-23
This week: vs. Los Angeles Chargers
One thing to know: This week's game against the Chargers will be a battle of the frustratingly winless teams. At least one team is assured to record their first W.
27. Los Angeles Chargers
Record: 0-4
Last week: Lost to the Eagles, 26-24
This week: at New York Giants
One thing to know: The Chargers are not as bad as their record appears, as three of their losses have come by a total of seven points. But what is of real concern is their inability to draw much of a home crowd.
26. Cincinnati Bengals
Record: 1-3
Last week: Beat the Browns 31-7
This week: vs. Buffalo Bills
One thing to know: The Bengals sealed their first win of the season last weekend against the struggling Browns. They'll have to keep their offense humming if they hope to seal a home win facing the Bills on Sunday.
25. Chicago Bears
Record: 1-3
Last week: Lost to the Packers, 35-14
This week: vs. Minnesota Vikings
One thing to know: The Bears are finally handing the keys to rookie QB Mitch Trubisky. He'll have quite a welcome to the NFL against the Vikings' fearsome defense.
24. Jacksonville Jaguars
Record: 2-2
Last week: Lost to the Jets 23-20
This week: at Pittsburgh Steelers
One thing to know: The Jaguars were just one overtime possession away from being the most surprising 3-1 team in the league. Instead, they'll have to beat the Steelers in Pittsburgh this weekend to hold on to a winning record. That said, the AFC South as open as any division in football, and even with a loss the Jaguars season is likely to come down to divisional play.
23. New York Jets
Record: 2-2
Last week: Beat the Jaguars, 23-20 [OT]
This week: at Cleveland Browns
One thing to know: It is very Jets-like that, in the season they are supposed to tank to get a top draft pick, they find themselves at 2-2, tied in the AFC East with the Patriots.
22. Arizona Cardinals
Record: 2-2
Last week: Beat the 49ers 18-15
This week: at Philadelphia Eagles
One thing to know: It took a heroic overtime effort from Larry Fitzgerald for the Cardinals to beat the Niners in Arizona last week. The Cardinals will have to figure out a more well-rounded offensive attack if they want to compete with the best in the NFL this year.
21. New Orleans Saints
Record: 2-2
Last week: Beat the Dolphins, 20-0
This week: Bye
One thing to know: Saints head coach Sean Payton is once again speaking up about gun control, calling gun laws "flawed" following the Las Vegas massacre.
20. Baltimore Ravens
Record: 2-2
Last week: Lost to the Steelers 26-9
This week: at Oakland Raiders
One thing to know: After opening the season with two authoritative wins, the Ravens have now dropped two straight games and not looked particularly competitive in either of them. Which Ravens team will show up this weekend in Oakland?
19. Washington Redskins
Record: 2-2
Last week: Lost to the Chiefs, 29-20
This week: Bye
One thing to know: Washington had the chance to steal a game from Kansas City if not for a dropped touchdown pass from Josh Doctson. Even worse for the 'Skins: they lost several defensive players to injuries during the game.
18. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Record: 2-1
Last week: Beat the Giants 25-23
This week: vs. New England Patriots
One thing to know: With a plethora of offensive weapons, Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers will have a chance to score a lot of points against the struggling Patriots defense on Thursday night.
17. Tennessee Titans
Record: 2-2
Last week: Lost to the Texans, 57-14
This week: at Miami Dolphins
One thing to know: In addition to getting steamrolled by the Texans, the Titans also lost Marcus Mariota to a sore hamstring. Signing Brandon Weeden as a temporary replacement is hardly inspiring, but the good news is that a game vs. Miami seems to be the recipe to get any team's defense untracked.
16. Seattle Seahawks
Record: 2-2
Last week: Beat the Colts 46-18
This week: at Los Angeles Rams
One thing to know: The Seahawks finally looked like their old selves on Sunday night, walloping the Colts in Seattle with the help of two defensive touchdowns and a scrambling Russell Wilson turning broken plays into miracle conversions. This week's matchup against the Rams will be a battle for NFC West supremacy, and could have major implications later in the season.
15. Houston Texans
Record: 2-2
Last week: Beat the Titans, 57-14
This week: vs. Kansas City Chiefs
One thing to know: After a slow start to the season, Deshaun Watson narrowly lost a shootout to Tom Brady, then hung five touchdowns on the Titans in a blowout. We'll see if he can keep it up against the red-hot Chiefs in Week 5.
14. Minnesota Vikings
Record: 2-2
Last week: Lost to the Lions 14-7
This week: at Chicago Bears
One thing to know: With Sam Bradford still sidelined and the loss of breakout star running back Dalvin Cook, the Vikings will be even more reliant on their stifling defense in coming weeks.
13. Dallas Cowboys
Record: 2-2
Last week: Lost to the Rams, 35-30
This week: vs. Green Bay Packers
One thing to know: The Cowboys have been up and down this season, but should get some defensive help this week with the return of David Irving and the hopeful return of Sean Lee, who left with injury in Week 4.
12. Oakland Raiders
Record: 2-2
Last week: Lost to the Broncos 16-10
This week: vs. Baltimore Ravens
One thing to know: Derek Carr will be out for 2-6 weeks with a back injury, meaning starting quarterback duties will fall to E.J. Manuel, who looked passable in his few snaps on Sunday. Can he do enough to keep the team in the playoff hunt until Carr returns? In the AFC West, it will be no easy feat.
11. Los Angeles Rams
Record: 3-1
Last week: Beat the Cowboys, 35-30
This week: vs. Seattle Seahawks
One thing to know: It's early, and the Rams also started 3-1 last season, but thus far, Jared Goff's passer rating is nearly double the 63.6 passer rating he posted last year.
10. Carolina Panthers
Record: 3-1
Last week: Beat the Patriots 33-30
This week: at Detroit Lions
One thing to know: Cam Newton gave football fans flashbacks on Sunday with his incredible performance against the Patriots, throwing for 316 yards, three touchdowns, and completing over 75% of his passes. It was his best stat line since Week 6 of last season.
9. Buffalo Bills
Record: 3-1
Last week: Beat the Falcons, 23-17
This week: at Cincinnati Bengals
One thing to know: Sure, the Falcons lost both Julio Jones and Mohamed Sanu, but the Bills defense impressed once again, holding last year's most explosive offense to just 17 points. They've allowed just one passing touchdown this season.
8. Philadelphia Eagles
Record: 3-1
Last week: Beat the Chargers 26-24
This week: vs. Arizona Cardinals
One thing to know: Philadelphia fans were so loud in Los Angeles on Sunday that they turned the Chargers into the road team in their own stadium. Now they'll return to the city of brotherly love with a 3-1 record and a fanbase eager to show them just how loud they can get.
7. New England Patriots
Record: 2-2
Last week: Lost to the Panthers, 33-30
This week: at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
One thing to know: It's proven foolish in the past to worry about the Patriots, but this year's porous defense seems worthy of concern. They've already surrendered the most 30-point games they've allowed in a season since 2009.
6. Detroit Lions
Record: 3-1
Last week: Beat the Vikings 14-7
This week: vs. Carolina Panthers
One thing to know: The Lions win over the Vikings wasn't a pretty one by any means, but Detroit did just enough to keep the Vikings at bay and strike when the opportunity presented itself. A balanced Lions team is not something football fans are particularly used to seeing, but it could be the norm this year.
5. Pittsburgh Steelers
Record: 3-1
Last week: Beat the Ravens, 26-9
This week: vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
One thing to know: Ben Roethlisberger wasn't too pleased with Antonio Brown's temper tantrum after Roethlisberger missed him on a route, saying: "it's causing a distraction that none of us really needs."
4. Atlanta Falcons
Record: 3-1
Last week: Lost to the Bills 23-17
This week: Bye Week
One thing to know: Despite losing to the Bills at home on Sunday, the Falcons still offer one of the most fearsome matchups in football position by position. In a year that's already seen top teams falling and perennial bottom-dwellers finding success, the reliable quality of the Falcons feels stable. But to be fair, that could all change depending on how their game with the Panthers goes on Sunday.
3. Denver Broncos
Record: 3-1
Last week: Beat the Raiders, 16-10
This week: Bye
One thing to know: In three consecutive weeks, the Broncos have held the likes of Ezekiel Elliott, LeSean McCoy, and Marshawn Lynch to fewer than two yards per rush combined. The run defense is real.
2. Green Bay Packers
Record: 3-1
Last week: Beat the Bears 35-14
This week: at Dallas Cowboys
One thing to know: The Packers have fought their way to a 3-1 victory despite being maligned by injuries already this early in the year. While the team is still looking for healthy offensive tackles to help protect Aaron Rodgers, there's good news in the fact that Davante Adams may be cleared for Sunday's game against the Cowboys just ten days after taking one of the most brutal hits of the season.
1. Kansas City Chiefs
Record: 4-0
Last week: Beat the Redskins, 29-20
This week: at Houston Texans
One thing to know: The Chiefs are the lone undefeated team in the NFL, and they owe it to a number of factors, from Alex Smith's precision, Kareem Hunt's explosion, to their suffocating defense.
